The South African lifestyle is synonymous with the outdoors – music festivals in a park, summer days next to the pool or braai fire, and a hike up a mountain. And South Africans also know real wine. People who love great wine made by world class winemakers don’t have to compromise on quality for the convenience of canned wine.
UNCANNY WINE was created in early-2018 by two friends with the aim of creating South Africa’s first certified and premium canned wine.
UNCANNY has taken winemaking traditions and combined it with brilliant innovation and great design to create exclusive, premium quality wines in environmentally-friendly cans. In 2019 UNCANNY launched South Africa’s first certified premium canned wines, before launching the first canned de-alcoholised wine range in 2020.
Uncanny Wines’ Premium Wine Range consists of a Chenin Blanc (Wine of Origin Swartland), a No Sulphur Added Merlot (Wine of Origin Stellenbosch) and a Sparkling Pinotage Rosé (Coastal Region). The entire range was made through Vegan-Friendly practices and the Merlot without any added sulphites. Grapes were specially selected from regions ideally suited to the respective cultivars. Wines are commissioned from outstanding winemakers.
Tasting notes:
The Uncanny Chenin Blanc 2021 carries a burst of vibrant energy as tropical fruit and lime meet you on the nose. The mid-palate displays a fresh acidity with green melon aromas as minerality lingers on the finish.
Fresh Sparkling Rosé made from 100% Pinotage grapes. Beautiful onion skin colour with a pink hue. The nose displays pomegranate, watermelon and strawberry notes. Lingering aromas of red berries and candyfloss fills the palate with bubbles contributing
to a fresh finish
The Uncanny Merlot has mulberries and fynbos collide on the nose, with a rich fruit forward mid-palate balanced attractively with a dry finish. Lovely red fruit character with rich and dark colour. The aftertaste lingers with hints of dark chocolate
